Purpose Statement

 

The Alexandria City Public Schools seeks a dynamic and strategic leader to serve as Principal of Patrick Henry K-8 School. The Principal executes the school’s vision; establishes and maintains the school philosophy; leads and manages the school to achieve daily instructional program excellence; and leads the school improvement planning process ensuring alignment with the school division’s strategic plan and best practices. This job reports to the Executive Director of School Leadership under the Department of Teaching, Learning, and Leadership.

 

School History

 

Patrick Henry K-8 School is located in the west end of the city of Alexandria, seven miles from the nation's capital. Patrick Henry is on a fifteen-acre site in a valley that was once woodlands. A new state-of-the-art school facility opened in January 2019 while the school simultaneously transitioned from an elementary program to a K-8 program. The new Patrick Henry School facility has received awards and recognition for its design and environmental features. The Patrick Henry Recreation Center adjoins the school. The new Patrick Henry K-8 School replaces the former Patrick Henry Elementary School that opened in September of 1953. The school serves as a community hub for activities and sporting events.

Job Description

 

The Principal serves as the educational leader of the school, responsible for creating a safe, supportive, and academically rigorous environment conducive to student learning and growth. The Principal provides instructional leadership, administrative oversight, and fosters a collaborative school culture among staff, students, parents, and the broader community.  The Principal also directs the development of the school vision and establishes and maintains the school philosophy and educational programs consistent with community characteristics and the ACPS Strategic Plan. 

 

This position reports to the Executive Director of School Leadership.

 

Qualifications

 

Education: A Master’s degree in a related field is required. Doctorate Preferred. 


Certificates & Licenses: A valid Virginia Department of Education license is required, or eligibility to obtain one, with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision.
