Job Description
Properly maintain Board vehicles and grounds equipment by routine and preventive maintenance and to effect repairs/adjustments in order to insure safe, dependable transportation of students, staff, supplies, and materials.
This position works 12 months/260 days
Qualifications
Education: High school/vocational school graduate and/or combination of education, training and experience to provide a good knowledge of practices and tools of the automotive mechanic trade.
Experience: Good knowledge of the principles and operation of gasoline and diesel engines and of mechanical repair on heavy trucks, buses (school), grounds equipment, and other automotive equipment.
Essential Functions
- Makes general repairs in light and heavy trucks, cars, buses, and grounds equipment, gasoline and diesel engines or Board equipment; receiving instructions as to what tasks to perform and work methods to use on difficult repair jobs from the Automotive/Equipment Maintenance Foreman.
- Perform welding tasks, fabricates parts and special equipment as needed/required.
- Inspects, adjusts, repairs and overhauls brakes, ignition systems, electrical systems, differentials and rear axle assemblies.
- Performs Virginia State Inspection on School Board vehicles and equipment.
- Tunes engines using standard test equipment.
- Responds to emergency road calls from disabled Board equipment.
- Attends job related training as required/directed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Clearances:
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
- Tuberculosis Skin Test.
Public Health Compliance
- Must follow safety and health protocols.
