Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS)  is now accepting applications for Virginia All In High-Dosage Tutors to work on a temporary basis in schools throughout the division.  Individual work assignments will be at one specific school.  Work schedules will vary depending on the needs of each school.   Tutors will implement specific intervention programs related to Virginia Department Of Education (VDOE) “All In” Tutoring, conduct weekly progress monitoring, and work with a team of school staff to make data-informed decisions for each child.  The candidate should be patient, flexible, and skilled in oral and written communication, manage student behavior, modify instructional activities as required, and assess and evaluate student achievement. Tutors can expect to work 1 (minimum) - 4 (maximum) hours per week, depending upon their availability and interest. Additional hours may be considered based upon school needs and grant funding availability. This is a grant-funded temporary casual position concluding on or before May 31, 2024.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

To develop and implement an instructional program that will effectively provide high-intensity academic tutoring to students in grades 3-8 who are “at risk” or “not proficient” based on statewide assessment results.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Complete All In Tutoring online training modules available on the Virginia Department of Education All In Tutoring website (for non-licensed staff).
  • Ability to facilitate strong, positive relationships with students and understand students’ learning needs in math and reading
  • Incorporate progress monitoring into tutoring sessions to track student learning progress
  • Possess effective reading, writing, and computation skills
  • Possess effective oral and written communication skills
  • Possess the personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, and parents
  • Ability to navigate online platforms 
  • Acceptance of flexible work schedule (As designated by school principal)
  • Dependability and punctuality required

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hold or be eligible to hold a current teaching license in the State of Virginia 
  • (Bachelor's Degree in English and Mathematics preferred)
  • Complete All In Tutoring online training modules available on the Virginia Department of Education All In Tutoring website (for non-licensed staff).

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 30 college credits is required. An exception may be provided for applicants who do not have a minimum of 30 college credits but are enrolled in an approved teacher education preparatory program or participated in a teacher introduction course in high school. 
  • Candidates new to ACPS must pass a background check
  • Candidates must be able to understand, follow, and communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. 
  • They must be able to work effectively with children, young adults, faculty, and staff; and perform all required tasks, as assigned.
  • Tutors must be able to commit to tutoring until May 31, 2024.  
  • Candidates who have experience teaching and/or tutoring are preferred.
  • All tutoring programs will take place in person at ACPS schools under school administration supervision. 

Salary:     $48.58/hour – Certified teachers in Virginia

         $36.58/hour - Non Licensed staff meeting the minimum qualifications

  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test

Public Health Compliance

  • Must follow safety and health protocols.
